Proper farm eggs from happy hens
“You are what your food ate”
Pasture-raised fresh eggs
These are proper farm eggs. Not “Farm Fresh Eggs” - you might have seen this phrase when buying eggs from a shop. If you ever see this on a sign or label, check if the eggs are stamped. If the stamp begins with “3 UK”, then unfortunately they are from caged hens. You can read more about egg stamp codes here.
Our hens live a happy, healthy life and get a lot of exercise. They are free to roam fresh pasture and supplement their diet by foraging for a variety of things they love to eat. This includes everything from fresh grass, herbs to insects and worms.
Our hens have access to their hen house throughout the day for shelter and for laying. However unlike battery or barn chickens, we rotate their outdoor access to pasture. This keeps them busy exploring and producing deliciously nutrient-dense eggs, but also helps us better manage and improve our soil health and regenerate our fields.
Lower laying rates and a more planet-friendly diet We rehomed most of our commercial brown hens in 2025 and changed to heavier breeds that lay fewer eggs. This places less stress on the hens and they will lay for a longer period as a result. We have also found they are better suited to the pastured system and the soya-free feed we switched to. This reduces the carbon footprint of our feed as most soya is imported from South America and farming it has contributed to vast deforestation.
Contributing to a local food system and avoiding waste We are proud to collaborate with Leighton Linslade Community Fridge, donating our imperfect and short-dated eggs to them. In return we collect food from them that is past its Use By Date (vegetables, fruit and stale bread), and feed this to the chickens.
